On the occasion of the Science Year 2019 - Artificial Intelligence, we invite filmmakers and scientists from all over the world to submit films on Artificial Intelligence (AI, KI in German) and science and research on AI. All films nominated for the awards are presented to the general public at the »KI Science Film Festival« as well as at »KI
Science Film on tour«.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS THE 31ST OF MARCH 2019!

Artificial Intelligence is considered a critical technology of the future and is on everyone's minds. Many see it as a promise that makes our lives better and easier, for example in the health or mobility sector. Others warn of the dangers and paint negative scenarios of a society in which man loses control. The film competition aims to manifest AI more in the consciousness of the interested general public and to initiate a debate about its potential, but also about possible drawbacks to foster an open dialogue. We expect documentary, essayistic and fictional film contributions about the world of science and research revolving around AI and its effects on society. The KI Science Film Festival will screen the nominated films free of charge on three evenings, entailing expert discussions. A selection of the nominated
works will be shown at the "KI Science Film on tour" in three to five
partner cities in Germany.

Out of all submissions, an expert jury will nominate twelve finalists (Shortlist). These are screened at the KI Science Film Festival in Karlsruhe on the 3rd and 4th of July 2019 at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media and in the Filmtheater Schauburg cinema. The award ceremony will take place on 5th of July 2019 as an open-air gala in the
Otto-Dullenkopf Park in Karlsruhe as part of the Karlsruhe Science Festival EFFEKTE.

On Friday, the 5th of July 2019 the winners of the KI Science Film Award are announced at the EFFEKTE-Wissenschaftsfestival Karlsruhe. The prizes awarded consist of a cash amount of 3,000 euros, a certificate and a trophy for Best Feature Film and 2,000 euros, a certificate and a trophy for Best Short Film.

The KI Science Film Festival and its competition is a part of the Science Year 2019, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, carried out by the ZAK | Centre for Cultural and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
