LEAD ACTOR WANTED – MAYNARD | SHORT FILM

Short Film: The Boy Who Stutters
Genre: Drama
Length: 4-5 Minutes
Location: Zurich, Switzerland
Shooting Dates: Weekends in October
Project Type: Independent Short Film (Unpaid)

MAYNARD – LEAD ROLE

Age: 18-30
Height: Around 170-180 cm
Build: Medium / Average Build
Appearance: Soft facial features. Any skin colour is welcome.

Maynard is a kind-hearted young man who stutters. Because of his speech, he struggles to connect with people and often feels overlooked, misunderstood, and left behind. Despite genuinely trying his best, everyday interactions leave him frustrated and insecure.

Throughout the film, Maynard goes on an emotional journey as he confronts his frustrations and begins to see his life from a different perspective.

This is a challenging and rewarding lead role that requires emotional depth, vulnerability, and subtle performance. Portraying someone who stutters is not simply about repeating words or exaggerating speech patterns. The stutter should feel natural, believable, and consistent while still allowing the actor to communicate Maynard's emotions and growth throughout the story.

This role is a great opportunity for an actor looking to challenge themselves with a character-driven performance in a dramatic short film.

E-CASTING / SELF-TAPE

Please send a 30-second to 1-minute self-tape including:

  • A short introduction of yourself while naturally stuttering.
  • A few everyday sentences while stuttering.

The stutter should not feel forced or exaggerated. We are looking for a natural and believable portrayal.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

Although this is an unpaid independent production, the selected actor will receive:

  • Screen credit
  • Footage for their showreel/portfolio
  • Experience working on a short film production
  • The opportunity to collaborate with other creatives and filmmakers
